"Convomania is a place for seriously ill and disabled kids on the Internet, sponsored by the Worldwide Disability Solutions Group [www.apple.com] at Apple Computer.
Convomania is a hangout for kids who begin too many sentences with 'I miss...'
It's for kids who are sick and tired of being sick and tired... and who want to
do something about it... together.
'Convomaniacs' are seeking straight talk about tough issues. Not necessarily
from doctors or parents. From each other.
...BUT, Apple pulled the plug on the project in May of 1998 in a
money-saving decision. A group of dedicated ex-project workers kept it going for
awhile, unlike Apple lawyers stepped in ... such are the problems confronting a
company with 4% market share. (See www.wired.com,
Fri,Sat,Sun, May 15,16,17, 1998 for the story.)

Suggestions for Notebook/Laptop PCs
Notebooks
Please click on the above and take some time to visit this site for
reviews of numerous notebook computers!
GENERAL COMMENTS: (1) A Pentium 166 CPU is ample
power for all but intense graphics work and complex database
number-crunching. (2) Dual scan color is still easy on the eyes, though
most notebooks now come standard with slightly more expensive active
matrix screens. Always, the larger (13.3" vs 12.1") the
screen, the easier on the eyes. (3) 32 megs of RAM gets the job done
'for the rest of us' -- even with 3 apps open. (4) While one can never
have too much storage space, a two-gigs hard disk will easily suffice
for all major apps (Office 97 Prof Edition, Publisher 97, TextPad,
PaintShopPro, AOL, Explorer, Netscape, 2-3 HTML editors, Clipmate and so
on -- with about 800 megs to spare. (5) A 10X CD-ROM is fast enough
unless you're into CD-movies! (6) Finally, a 28.8 fax/modem is
sufficient, given the too-often sluggish World Wide Wait!
